Autonomous MPA Enforcement

What good is an MPA if you can’t enforce its protection?
The United Nations SDG14 recommends a goal of protecting 30% of the global ocean by 2030. We asked ourselves how realistic this really was. In many of the areas around the world countries lack the capacity to actually sense when someone is in their waters. On top of that, they lack the resources to intercept and bring the offenders to justice. You can declare the entire ocean as a protected space but if you lack the proper tools to enforce, are they really protected?
This is why some of our systems are dual purpose. Most of the time these areas are quiet and void of any marine traffic. In the case that there is a violator, they will be warned. If they do not leave they will be placed under arrest and in some cases, intercepted. Several countries already take a hard stance on poaching. Take for example Palau. It’s no longer worth the risk of poaching knowing you could lose your boat.
This is the common heritage of mankind. It’s responsible for every second breath we breathe here on the planet. This kind of life support system finally has a security system that it deserves.
Making Impact isn’t just about Technological Innovation
Founder Jeremy McKane and Co-Collaborator Susi Mai created ULTRAMARINE on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island. The mission was to bring rapid collaboration to The Ocean Space in hopes that we can protect more of what matters.
